enhancing students’ oral performance. Besides, we focused on the mistakes committed in the
classroom, the way they are treated suggesting delayed correction as the appropriate strategy
to encourage students to speak. Also, we emphasized on teachers’ role in the classroom to
motivate students to participate and try with the language for the purpose of achieving
communicative ability in using the English language. Moreover, the difference between
mistakes and errors, what should be corrected and when is being highlighted, the importance
of the Speaking Skill, the various techniques used by teachers to develop that skill as well as
both teachers’ and students’ attitudes towards mistakes. For our study, two questionnaires
were given to both teachers and students randomly chosen from the English Department at
Mentouri University, Constantine. Behind our hypothesis and means of research, we aimed to
spotlight on the significance of mistakes in the learning process and how teachers’ delayed
correction plays a positive role in developing students’ speaking ability. After giving the
questionnaires and having them analyzed, we concluded that both teachers and students value
the speaking skill where they use various techniques to develop that skill and give further
attention to the correction technique, the type of the mistake committed as well as the right
time of correction.Diplome : Master 2 Permalink : https://bu.umc.edu.dz/master/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=3550 The role of delayed error Correction in fostering the speaking skill of EFL learners [texte imprimé] / Hassina Rahali, Auteur ; Riad Belouahem, Directeur de thèse . - CONSTANTINE (Route Ain el bey, BP 325, ALGERIE) : Université Frères Mentouri Constantine, 2012 . - 80 f. ; 30 cm.

Teachers usually use different techniques to help students. The present study deals with communicative games as a technique that can be used to overcome students’ speaking difficulties. It aims at getting insight into the teachers’ and students’ attitudes towards the use of communicative games in the classroom. In the light of the present aim, it was hypothesized that if communicative games were used in the Oral Expression class, the students’ speaking skill would improve. In order to check our hypothesis, a descriptive study was conducted which was based on the analysis of the data gathered from two questionnaires devoted for the Oral Expression teachers in the Department of Letters and English Language, Faculty of Letters and Languages, University « Des Frères Mentouri », Constantine. The second questionnaire was given to second year students at the same Department. The analysis of the results of the study has revealed that it is effective to use communication games in teaching Oral Expression in order to help students develop their speaking skill. More precisely, it has been found that the majority of the teachers as well as students under study hold positive attitudes towards the use of communicative games in order to improve students’ oral English. Careful planning and organization of the game activity can ensure better teaching and learning results. Centered Instruction Speaking Skill Index. décimale : 420 Langue anglaise Résumé : This study is concerned with how the educational system changed from the teacher-centered to the student-centered instruction, which became one of the most advocated approaches all over the world. The aim of this dissertation is to explore the use of learner-centered instruction at eight secondary schools in Mila and its effectiveness in improving students’ speaking skill. This study focuses particularly on the origin of learner-centered instruction, its principles, and its strategies that motivate students to speak. We hypothesize that if teachers of secondary schools in Mila use the student-centered instruction, students will be motivated to improve their speaking skill. In this study, we address two issues: teacher and students’ attitudes towards the use of learner-centered instruction, and the activities that can motivate students to speak. The study has mainly been conducted with a random sample of thirty (30) English teachers at eight secondary schools in Mila and eighty (80) third year foreign languages students. To collect data for this study, two questionnaires have been administered: one for students and the other for teachers. We analyzed the obtained data through descriptive analyses, which is appropriate for analyzing quantitative data. Research findings showed that teachers have actually a positive attitude toward learner-centered instruction, but they do not use it in their classrooms. As for the students, their attitudes towards this approach were negative due to their unawareness of the concept because they got used to be passive and their teacher is the only authority in the classroom, although the majority of them agree that student-centered instruction is effective in motivating students’ speaking skill. Therefore, the null hypothesis was confirmed since the teachers are not really using this approach in their classes. Audio Aids Speaking Skill Index. décimale : 420 Langue anglaise Résumé : The purpose of this research is to shed some light on the importance of using Audio Aids materials in classes, in order to help second year English students to master the language, because the majority of the graduated students at the Department of English finish their studies with low proficiency in their speaking skill. This research also seeks to determine the common problems that students may face when they speak the English language. The research hypothesis is that if second year English students at Frères Mentouri Constantine 1 at the Department of English are exposed to language through the use of audio aids materials regularly, their speaking skill will be improved. To test our hypothesis, we have designed two questionnaires. The first questionnaire is designed for 20 students from the same class and the second questionnaire is designed for 10 teachers of Oral Expression. The teachers’ and the students’ questionnaires have been analyzed and the obtained results demonstrate that the use of audio aids equipments during the Oral Expression classes help students to improve their speaking skill and this confirms our hypothesis.
