This work focuses on the experimental study of the electromechanical and tribological
behavior of sliding couples copper-steel, copper-graphite, steel-steel and brass-steel, for welldefined functional parameters (normal load, sliding speed, time setting, contact geometry and
intensity of the electric current). For this purpose, an experimental approach on different
samples was performed using a disc pin type modified test disc-cable. Parallel to these
experimental studies, an analytical approach (model of Archard) was undertaken to
characterize the different geometric parameters (real radius of contact), thermal (mean
temperature at the interface, and the amount of heat partition coefficient) and electromechanical (breaking stress, electric field and thickness of the oxide film).
This study further optimize the conditions of the tribo-contact operation with and
without electrical current to increase the lifetime of these pairs and make a wise choice for the
best couple.
The discussion of the results is based on observations and analyzes of the worn
surfaces of the contact elements. This analyzes show that the electric current has a significant
effect on the nature, the composition and the thickness of the oxidized layer. Indeed, the
mechanism of formation and rupture of the oxide film governs the tribological behavior of the
different studied couples. |
