Résumé :	Long time and often left away, urban spaces tend nowadays to be one of the essential components of the city and is subject of top priorities in the modern urban policies. They stand for areas by which the city communicates by means of an image and an urban landscape that narrate its history and give it an identity. They are also areas for socialization between members of the community. Based mainly on ideologies and concepts which refer to the modern age, the new cities like those of Constantine could not manage well to integrate public spaces .In fact Ali Mendjeli new city has been designed and realized according the traditional vision of the big urban cities, in other words constructing as many as accommodation possible on the expense of the qualitative aspect of the city. Ali Mendjeli new city stands now for a huge dormitory, where collective spaces are almost empty whether at the level of the founding or the vicinity and the urban life is totally non-existent. This is basically due to design defects and poor management of the existing areas. In the past, medium of sociability, public spaces could no more assume their social role. The rise of some scourges such as insecurity affects its coherence and gives the feeling of individualism. Consequently, we notice the emergence of new areas towards which people turn to spend their leisure time which are mainly private rest areas. The present survey tends to point out some realities regarding public spaces in the new urban cities. Ali Mendjeli new city is study case
