Biologie Résumé : The chronic hyperglycemia is accompanied by excessive production of free radicals by
various mechanisms. This is an indicator of the oxidative stress that is involved in the
worsening of chronic complications related to diabetes mellitus. The objective of this study is
to evaluate the beneficial effects of melatonin and fluoxetine on metabolic disorders induced
by diabetes, as well as on the parameters of oxidative stress that could play a causal role in the
appearance of depressive behavior in rats rendered diabetic following an intraperitoneal
injection of streptozotocin (60 mg / kg). After 72 hours, the diabetic rats were treated with
melatonin and fluoxetine for 4 weeks. Behavioral tests such as the elevated plus maze (EPM),
the open field (OFT) and forced swimming (FST) were performed during the last week of
treatment to verify the antidepressant and anxiolytic effects of these two drugs.
At the end of this experiment, blood samples were taken for the determination of some
biochemical parameters, as well as the determination of oxidative stress markers in
erythrocytes, prefrontal cortex and hippocampus.
Our results showed that treatment with melatonin and fluoxetine significantly improved
anxiety behavior in diabetic rats during EPM and OFT, the same treatment was able to
reverse depressive behavior in the FST.
It was also noted that both treatments exert a regulating effect on blood glucose and lipid
profile parameters, thus these two drugs decrease erythrocyte lipoperoxidation and improve
the antioxidant status in the cerebral structures involved in the pathophysiology of depression
However, all these results clearly show that melatonin is endowed with a more potent
antioxidant activity than that of fluoxetine, and thus it would have an antidepressant effect. - 117 f. ; 30 cm.

Biologie Résumé : The streptozotocin and alloxan are the moste prominent diabetogenic chemical agents.
The objective of the present work was undertaken to clarify the comparative effect of alloxan and streptozotocin on some biochemical parameters (glycemia, Insulin, total cholesterol, triglyceridemia , total proteins) and on histological structure of the endocrine pancreas in white rats with experimental diabetes during (2 - 3 days).
The intraperitoneal injection of 250 mg / kg of alloxan causes after 24 h, hypoglycemia followed by a very high significant hyperglycemia (5 g / l), a significant hypertriglycerdemia hyperinsulinemia and hypercholesterolemia wasn’t significant. The treatment with a dose of 200 mg / kg of alloxan showed a hyperglycemia and hyperinsulinemia but not significant and the level of cholesterol was increased high significantly after 72h. While a dose of 150 mg / kg of alloxan caused ; after 72h, hyperglycemia and hyperinsulinemia, hypercholesterolemia but not significant. The results of treatment with STZ (60 mg / kg) showed a significant hyperglycemia after 24 h, hyperinsulinemia and hypercholesterolemia non significant however the other blood parameters (triglycerdemia, proteinemia) had a similar levels in contrast to control group.
Histological sections of the endocrine pancreatic showed a large necrotic regions in rats treated with aloxane than those treated with stz.
The results obtained in this study showed that the treatment with alloxan and stz causes stable symptomes of diabetes (polyphagia, polyuria, polydipsia, a fall in body weight, hyperglycemia) with different effects. - 89 f. ; 30 cm.

The aim of our study was to evaluate the effect of water deprivation, food deprivation and their combination for three days on the metabolic and endocrine status in rats.
The level of total lipids and triglycerides were significantly reduced, however the level of total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol and LDL cholesterol was increased in all groups.
The results of urine tests (kaliuresis, natriuresis, proteinuria) showed a significant signs of dehydration with a significant increase in total protein in dehydrated rats.
Thyroid failure reflected by a decrease in the level of plasma FT4 and FT3 was noted after dehydration, malnutrition and their association. A significant decrease in plasma TSH was observed in malnourished rats and dehydrated and malnourished rats; this level was decreased but not significantly in dehydrated rats.
In our study, we showed that the water and food deprivation or altogether activate hepatic glycogenolysis, muscle lipid oxidation. On the other hand, it seems that nutritional stress modifies the pituitary-thyroid axis through mechanisms different from those of osmotic stress. - 86 f. ; 30 cm.
