In order to contribute to the valorisation of local medicinal plants, we were interested in two medicinal plants (Thymus algeriensis and Atriplex mollis) of the Lamiaceae and Chenopodiaceae family that very common in traditional medicine. The objective of this work was to develop and optimize the operating conditions for the extraction of phenolic compounds using different techniques. The GC-FID and GC / MS analysis of the essential oil of the aerial parts of Thymus algeriensis showed that this oil is predominantly composed of 1,8-cineole (25.12%), camphor (18.33%) and α-pinene (8.29%) accompanied by other components at relatively low levels: camphene (5.16%), borneol (5.07%), bornyl acetate (3.38%), caryophyllene oxide (3.15%) and linalool (2.14%).
Microwave-assisted extraction has proved effective in extracting phenolic compounds from the species studied. The aqueous extracts obtained by this extraction from the aerial parts of the two species were analyzed. HPLC revealed the richness of MAE extracts in polyphenols ranging from 2508.85 to 11000.12 μg / g PS for T.algeriensis and from 558.17 to 832.56 μg / g PS for A.mollis. The analysis of the phenolic composition of the n-butanol extracts obtained from the aerial parts of the two species by HPLC, as well as the determination of the antioxidant, antibacterial effects by the DPPH methods, β-carotene bleaching and the agar diffusion respectively, shows a wealth of ethanolic extracts of phenolic compounds. These compounds are primarily responsible for the remarkable antioxidant activity observed in the tests. The extracts revealed good antibacterial activity. These extracts also showed excellent anti-inflammatory activity and an acceptable diuretic effect.
Finally, the electrochemical study using three different methods (mass loss, potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy) has confirmed the anticorrosion activity of the butanolic extracts of the two studied species.Note de contenu :

This work concerned the phytochemical and biological study of two Algerian medicinal plants Thymus ciliatus (Desf) and Asteriscus graveolens (Forsk.) dc. belonging to the families Lamiaceae and Asteraceae ,respectively. This study led to the isolation of twenty seven products from which seventeen were identified including. Among the isolated compounds, 5 sesquiterpenes from which 3 were new, 6 flavonoids which 1 is new, 4 phenolic compounds and 2 monoterpenes. The structures of the isolated products were elucidated mainly by the combination of spectroscopic methods mainly: NMR techniques (1H, 13C, COSY, HSQC and HMBC), UV spectrophotometry, we also used high resolution mass spectrometry methods and comparison with literature data. The quantification of total phenols and total flavonoids contents of the EtOAc, nBuOH extracts of the aerial parts of Thymus ciliatus (Desf) were determined, EtOAc extract had the highest phenolic and flavonoid contents followed by n-butanol extract. This extracts showed an excellent antioxidant activity by DPPH test. The antioxidant activity of AcOEt and n-BuOH extracts of Asteriscus graveolens was estimated by the DPPH test and β-Carotene bleaching assay. The best result was obtained for the ethyl acetate extract, especially in the DPPH method, where its effect is greater than BHT and α-tocopherol used as standards. Both extracts and some isolated compounds of Asteriscus graveolens were tested for their cytotoxic effect in human cancer cell lines (HCT-116, DLD1 and HDFa). The results indicate that EtOAc extract and isolated compounds 9 α-hydroxyparthenolide, 9β-hydroxyparthenolide et 7,12-dihydroxy-6,7- dihydro-5,(6) E-dehydronerolidol showed significant activity compared to the n-BuOH extract and and the two new compounds. The chemical composition of the essential oil of aerial parts of Thymus ciliatus (Desf) Benth studied by GC-FID and GC-MS showed that this oil is mainly composed of elemol (6.80%), carvacrol (5.86%), γ-muurolene (5.18%), β-sesquiphellandrene (5.09%), bicyclogermacrene (5.04%), β-Pinene (4.49%) and curcumene (4.20%).Note de contenu : Annexes. ChimieTags : Flavonoïdes matricaria chamomilla composées flavonoids Asteraceae العائلة المركبة الفلافونيدية Index. décimale : 540 Chimie et sciences connexes Résumé :
The main purpose in this work was, the isolation and the structural détermination of the secondary metabolites of the flavonoids type from the nbutanol phase of the aerial parts of Matricaria chamomilla species belonging to the Asteraceae family.
Our choice for this species is justified by the fact that several species of the geans Matricaria are used in folk medicine for their anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, anti-ulcerative , antipyretic ,antispasmodic activities, for treatment of gastrointestinal disorders and against uterine shrinkages…
This study relates to the phytochemical investigation of the n-butanol phase of the aqueous-alcoholic extracts of the leaves and the flowers of Matricaria chamomilla. This contribution led to the isolation of seven products in the pure state, from which, we have established the structure of to products.
- Luteolin-7-O-β-glucoside.
- 5, 6, 7,3’,4’-pentahydroxyflavone-4’-O-β-D-glucoside.
The isolation and structure determenation of isolated coumpounds were based on the different spectroscopic technics such as ultraviolet, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, 2D NMR experiments (COSY, HSQC, HMBC) and mass spectrometry.
It is important to note, that 5, 6, 7, 3’,4’-pentahydroxyflavone-4’-O-β-Dglucoside is new and then ,was not described elsewhere. Coss. et Dur. and linaria aegyptiaca. belonging to the family Thymelaeaceae and
scrophulariaceae respectively. These two families are known for their richness in various
secondary metabolites. The objective of this work is the determination of the structures of
molecules isolated from these plants, and the evaluation of the antioxidant activity of the major
product (tiliroside) which was isolated from the ethyl acetate phase of Thymelaea microphylla
extract and plant extracts of this plant.
Several chromatographic methods were used in our experimental work which allowed
us to isolate thirteen products from polar and semi polar phases of Thymelaea microphylla
Coss. et Dur. extracts among which seven were identified and fully described. The
phytochemical study of linaria aegyptiaca, allowed us to isolate ten products. The structures of
seven were identified and fully described. All these structures were described for the first time
for the two species.
The methodology of purification was essentially based on the combination of different
solid-liquid chromatographic methods on different media (thin layer chromatography (TLC),
chromatography on silica column, high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)).
The structural determination of the isolated secondary metabolites was carried out
thanks to the use of physicochemical and spectroscopic techniques including ultraviolet
spectroscopy (UV), mass spectroscopy (MS) and magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR).
For NMR spectroscopy, the dimensional techniques (1H, 13C, DEPT, J mod) and twodimensional (COSY, HSQC, HMBC) which we used, we were able to realize the final structure
determination and unequivocal most secondary metabolites isolated.
From a biological point of view, the various extracts Thymelaea microphylla have an
average antioxydante activity.the chloroform extract can be considered a major antioxidant and
study can be deepened for therapeutic applications.
