While no one disputes That a translation must be faithful, the definition of faithfulness and the ways in which translators have striven to achieve it have varied over the centuries. Word-forword translation has given way to translation of meaning with the translated text reading as naturally in the target language as the original did in the source language. Reconciling faithfulness
and beauty is one of the most important challenges faced by translators.
Because of the importance of political discourse by its effect on the ideologies and specific In the introduction, we mentioned the definition of our theme and the development of this concept during the
centuries, then we have stated the main methodological framework adopted for this thesis and seize on the main question of the research, and also bring out its objectives.
After introducing our theme, we have begun the first chapter which represents the theoretical part of our research, then we divided this chapter into two sections : The first section contains
a full description of faithfulness and analysis of its different levels In the second section, we mentioned different definitions of discourse in particular, political discourse in general and its
relationship with translation and linguistics, after that setting strategies to improve the translation of political discourse.
Following this logical sequence, we ended at the second chapter which is the practical part of our research, we tried to analyze and critisize the different translational choices operated by the translator on two levels : semantics and stylistics.
So, according to what precedes, the conclusion of this research includes a general assessment of the translation
operated by the translator, and different results obtained through this research.
Finally, despite the attempts of translator to be faithful to the meaning or to the letter, we mentioned some losses on both levels, this explains that translational choices remains relative.
All this lead us to recognize the difficulty of translating political discourse .characteristics that distinguish it from other discourses, the translation of political discourse has become as important as its effect.
From this point of view, we have chosen the theme of this research: Faithfulness in the translation of political discourse in order to study it analytically and critically, this research consists to study and analyze the various methods adopted by the translator in his translation of political discourse, and also translational choices used.
So, the problem is based on two axes which are the meaning and the form, in other words: Is the translator faithful to the meaning or the letter? This leads the research set on two levels:
semantics and stylistics. In order to lead our research, as well as adopt satisfactory answers to the questions abovek we have chosen to divide our work into two chapters preceded by an introduction, and followed afterward by a conclusion. |
