In the present research, we will deal with the different methods that are generally adopted to handle the issue of similes in translation.
As to the representative corpus, the novel entitled as “Les Ailes Brisées” written by “Khalil Gibran” and translated by “Joël Colin” is chosen in our case to be examined, taking into account similes’ translation.
The question upon which our study is based counts for the manner in which a translation into French can transmit the lingual and rhetorical characteristics of the simile. Therefore, we will try to depict the extent to which the direct translation or the oblique one is relevant to translate similes.
While in the same vein, we will attempt to establish a correlation between the practice of translation and the theoretical aspects in order to shed light on the difficulties of translating similes.
A simile, as a rhetorical phenomenon, is considered to be the most important figure of speech in major works on rhetoric. Above all, it is used by writers to help create a vivid image in the reader’s mind. Accordingly, this figurative aspect of the language endows the human mind with the tendency |
