The inventory of Collombolan fauna in the three stations of the East of Algeria revealed the presence of 44 species distributed on 4 orders, 10 families and 30 genuses. Among these species, 10 are new for Algeria and 9 for Arabic Maghreb (Morocco, Tunisia, and Libya).
In Biskra, in the saharian environment also in Tinsilt in semi-arid environment the diversity is very slight. However, in Edough the diversity is very important (36 species). The biogeographic repartition of species in the three stations of research shows a tremendous number of Euro-Mediterranean fauna. The proportion of non-identified species reveals that algerian Collembolan fauna is not well known yet.
The ecological study of a Collembolan population stresses the deteminant character of the season variation of the fundamental edaphic factors: temperature and humidity of soil. Their season influence’evident in the humid zone is now confirmed in the semi-arid as well. |
