Résumé : |
The present dissertation, submitted in partial fulfillment of the degree of Magister in translation, is entitled "The Expression of the Symbolic Imagination in the novel: A Study of Abdulhamid AlJamal 's Translation into Arabic of "The Lord of the Flies" by William Golding, a case study."
Our rationale is about the translation of what could be described as the phenomenon of the symbolic imagination, from one language into another. Actually, most of the studies carried out on this theme dealt rather with poetry than the novel, considering the former as the
most ancient and usual form of rhetorical expression. Indeed, literary critics paid little attention to this phenomenon that presents the novel as an artistic work with stylistic and aesthetic values not to be neglected in any translation undertaking.
The present research work attempts to study the 1983 Nobel Prize winning novel "Lord of the Flies" by the famous British writer William Golding. This masterpiece is remarkable for its wellconstructed narrative and the symbolism that runs throughout it, drawing from philosophy, psychology and the civilisationnel heritage of Pharaonic Egypt civilization. This novel has been translated into various languages including French, English and Arabic. For the latter, there are at least four translations into this language bearing different titles. Among these, we opted for the translation entitled "Amir Adhoubab" done by Abdelhamid AlJamal from Egypt. Our choice was determined by the availability of this translated literary work in many Algerian libraries and a great deal of literary criticism dealing with the novel under study.
The present research work opens with an introduction and unfolds three chapters and a general conclusion. In the appendix, we added a glossary containing in alphabetical order, the main
Pharaonic symbols and all the religious, philosophical et psychological referents enumerated throughout the Arabic translation of the novel. |
