This study aims at finding out whether storytelling enhances the students’ speaking skill.
Besides, it aims at probing the extent to which teachers are aware of the possible effects
that storytelling may have on the students’ speaking skill. We hypothesize that when
teachers use storytelling in the classroom, students would improve their speaking skill. In
order to test the validity of the hypothesis, two questionnaires and a test were carried out:
the first was filled ou by fifty students of second year LMD students in the English
Department at Mentouri University Constantine; the second one was filled out by twenty
teachers in the same department. The test was administered to a group of students of the
same level (second year LMD) in the same department. The data allowed us to evaluate the
significant importance of storytelling on the students’ speaking skill. Furthermore, the
questionnaire designed to teachers allowed us to gauge the degree of teachers’ awareness
on the issue. the results obtained from the students’ questionnaire and the test revealed the
role of storytelling in improving the students’ speaking skill. As the results were good, we
confirmed our hypothesis |
