Résumé : |
English has become one of the widespread staple languages around the world. Regardless of the diverse motives to learn English, the common desire for most learners is to have the potential to communicate and express their minds spontaneously and effectively to accomplish the different activities and responsibilities they face daily. Hence, oral communication, which is a primordial process to convey ones ideas and express their thoughts to other people, requires dexterity and proficiency to transfer a meaningful, persuasive and adequate message. This oral proficiency would only be reached by incorporating a blend of effective factors and strategies among which Listening is considered of a paramount importance. The present dissertation, a total of two chapters, is a humble attempt to investigate the hypothesis which states: “If teachers do incorporate listening as an active technique and strategy in their first year oral expression classes at Mentouri University, this may enhance their students’ oral communication.” This piece of research, as a result, puts the stress on a conundrum, E.F.L learners at Mentouri University struggle to get a grip on since years, which is a poor oral communication ability. Relying on the active use of listening as the suitable and fruitful strategy teachers can use as a panacea for their learners speaking deficiencies is the objective of this dissertation. Thus, this research is carried out by means of two questionnaires and a quasi-experiment. Thirty eight (38) First Year L.M.D students in the Department of Letters and English Language at Mentouri University were invited to fill in a questionnaire and participate in the conduction of the quasi-experiment. On the other hand, twelve (12) teachers of “oral expression” with a considerable experience were mannerly asked to provide us with their standpoints about some aspects that have a direct relation with the subject matter. The elements gathered from the foregoing means of research have been analysed and compared under scrutiny. Subsequently, the results gathered definitely confirm the set hypothesis.
