Résumé : |
The present study seeks to investigate the constraints of translating abbreviations from
English into Arabic and vice versa by First Year Master Students of English department. It
also attempts to find the reasons behind their awareness of how and why to translate a given
form of abbreviation. The data is gathered using a written test administered to 40 randomly
selected first year Master students. The exercises aim to find out to what extent the students
are able to identify the abbreviations in English and in Arabic and translate them accurately.
The findings reveal that students have serious problems in identifying and translating
abbreviations especially in Arabic. This is due to their lack of knowledge of most of the
abbreviations especially in Arabic and the appropriate methods used to translate them |
