It also attempts to find the reasons behind their awareness of how and why to translate a given form of abbreviation. The data is gathered using a written test administered to 40 randomly selected first year Master students. The exercises aim to find out to what extent the students are able to identify the abbreviations in English and in Arabic and translate them accurately. The findings reveal that students have serious problems in identifying and translating abbreviations especially in Arabic.
