Résumé : |
This study aims at investigating some pronunciation errors made by first year LMD master students at the department of foreign languages in Mentouri University, Constantine. For this, we hypothesise that: if EFL learners in Mentouri University, Constantine ignore the use of weak forms of function words in speech, they generalise the strong forms of those words on their speech as an interference of French pronunciation. To carry out this study, we have chosen a sample of twenty students for an evaluation test of transcription, and to answer an investigative questionnaire. The results have indicated that most of the participants have failed in transcribing some function words in that they have transcribed them in full forms. Furthermore, the answers of the questionnaire have demonstrated that those informants transfer the French style of speech and rhythm on their speech while communicating in English. To sum up, the obtained results have confirmed our hypothesis, and so the interference of French is a crucial element that affects EFL students’ pronunciation at Mentouri University, Constantine. |
