The research methodology adopted in this study is a descriptive one. It intends to describe two variables: using rewards and praise words as the presumed independent variable and foreign language speaking as the presumed dependent variable, and to identify the relationship between them. Data were gathered through a series of questionnaires administered to a sample of 40 students (3rd year LMD) and delivered to 10 teachers of oral expression at the department of English, University of Constantine. The results of the investigation have shown that giving rewards and praise words encourages students to speak English and motivates them. Furthermore, the study is supposed to confirm the hypothesis; this positive outcome reflects the efficacy of praise words as extrinsic motivators, to help students improve their foreign language speaking performance.
