Writing in a foreign language is one of the most difficult and sophisticated tasks for language learners. It is a complex activity that requires a lot of effort and much practice on the writer‟s part so that he/she achieves an acceptable level of writing. Accuracy is an important criterion in writing that the majority of learners fail to achieve. Indeed it contributes to the achievement of clarity in writing. If learners are helped to develop their grammar, they will be able to write more accurately. In this research work, we aim to show the crucial role that integrative teaching of grammar and composition plays in enhancing the learners‟ writing. Students should be aware of grammar as they write by making the connection between their knowledge of grammar and writing. Thus, providing students with a course where grammar and writing are carried out simultaneously will help them produce more accurate texts. It is by the means of two questionnaires devised to both teachers and students from the Department of Languages at Mentouri University – Constantine that we investigated our hypothesis. The findings gathered in this study confirmed the set hypothesis in that integrative teaching of grammar and composition is important in improving the students‟ writing ability. |
