Résumé : |
The present work attempts to identify whether students of English are able to determine the
differences between the two varieties of the English language; British English and American
English at different levels (vocabulary, grammar and spelling).. We hypothesized that our
students are aware of those differences. In this research, 50 third year students of English at
the University of Frères Mentouri, Constantine 1 have participated in the investigation. We
have used a questionnaire and a test as means of gathering data. The students are asked to
answer a questionnaire. Moreover, the same students are set for the test in order to investigate
their knowledge of the varieties of the English language in spelling and vocabulary. The
results have showen that the majority of students are aware about these spelling differences
between British English and American English. The study has also revealed that many
students could differentiate between the British English and the American in vocabulary. A
higher number of students preferred to use the British English; that might be due to the fact
that the British English is normally the variety taught at university. This implies that students
are more aware of which variety they use, and broadly speaking more aware of the differences
between British and American English. |

Résumé : |
Feedback is no doubt a crucial component of the learning process that is provided by the teacher in the classrooms. Teacher‟ oral feedback as a mean of correcting the students‟ oral production could help learners to improve their speaking skills. The present study aims at exploring the students‟ reactions to their teachers ‟oral feedback during oral expression sessions of third-year students of English at the Department of Letters and English Language, Frères Mentouri University- Constantine. In order to assess our hypothesis that the teachers‟ oral feedback would trigger the learners to enhance their speaking ability, we have used two questionnaires: the teachers questionnaire and the students questionnaire for collecting data. Those questionnaires have been directed to 50 third-year LMD students of English at the Department of Letters and English Language, Frères Mentouri University-Constantine and to 15 teachers of oral expression module. The results obtained from the analysis of the two questionnaires have revealed that both teachers and students appreciate the important role that the oral feedback plays in improving their speaking skills. |

Résumé : |
Writing is a challenging task and a complex process, for both native and foreign language learners. Foreign language teachers implement different methods, techniques and strategies to develop and improve their learners writing proficiency. This dissertation is intended to investigate the effects of paired writing in cooperative learning on improving baccalaureate pupils writing proficiency. In order to achieve this aim, an extensive study is conducted and it is divided into two chapters: a theoretical and a practical one. Two questionnaires are administered to both teachers and baccalaureate pupils in Elarbi Djemil high school to investigate the effects of paired writing technique in cooperative learning on learners‟ writing performance. The results obtained indicate that secondary school English teachers use cooperative learning and they implement paired writing technique to improve their learners‟ writing. Pupils prefer to work cooperatively and they consider paired writing as a good technique. In other words, they claim that cooperative learning in general and paired writing technique in particular enhances baccalaureate pupils writing proficiency. |

Résumé : |
The present study aims at investigating the students' difficulties in the use of the Past
Simple tense and the Present Perfect tense and the reasons that stand behind this
confusion. In order to reach our purpose we hypothesize that if students are aware of the
grammar rules, they would not be then confused between the past simple and the present
perfect tenses. To check this speculation, a grammar test is given to First Year students at
the Department of English at University of Constantine 1, where the students are asked to
write the verb between brackets in the right tense form either in the past simple or in the
present perfect. The analysis shows that the students do face a problems not only in the form
but also in the use of both tenses. The main objective is to draw the students’ attention to this
problem, and help them overcome it through suggesting some recommendations |
