Index. décimale : |
420 Langue anglaise |
Résumé : |
The purpose of the present study is to shed light on the importance of teaching the
EFL learners the speaking skill through effective teaching methods and strategies. It seeks to
determine the common difficulties students face when speaking English in OE sessions. It has
been hypothesized that if OE teachers are aware of the importance of the speaking skill and
apply effective teaching methods and strategies, EFL learners speaking skill will be enhanced.
To verify this hypothesis, the case study research was conducted at Mentouri University of
Constantine the Department of Foreign Languages, relying on a questionnaire for 2nd year
LMD students, and an interview with OE teachers as instruments of the research. Based on a
description methodology, the obtained results have been analyzed. The data analysis
concludes with some important findings among which is the teachers and learners awareness
of the speaking skill importance and their readiness to apply effective methods and strategies
to enhance the learners speaking performance. The study ends up by providing some
recommendations and suggestions for EFL teachers to evolve in their teaching process. |

Applied Languages Studies Interference English-French Learners’ Reading |
Index. décimale : |
420 Langue anglaise |
Résumé : |
This study investigates first year master students’ knowledge and awareness of the existence of cognate words’ concept, as well as its effect on their reading comprehension. It attempts to confirm the following hypothesis; if students were aware of the cognate words they would avoid mistakes in their reading comprehension in English. This study is divided into two chapters, the first chapter is a theoretical part and the second one is practical part. In order to investigate the hypothesis we used two tools of research, a students’ questionnaire and a test, administered to randomly selected sample of thirty students. The analysis of the finding assumes that students are not really aware of the existence of the cognate words between French and English; they cannot master them because of the influence of French language on English. As a result their reading comprehension in English is affected due to the negative transfer. For this some recommendations are given to improve students’ performance in the reading process |

Applied Language Studies Phrasal Verbs Translating English |
Index. décimale : |
420 Langue anglaise |
Résumé : |
This study is carried out to shed light on one of the problems that 1st year master students come across while translating from English into Arabic. This problem is about the students' failure to translate English phrasal verbs appropriately. We try to analyse this problem and show the various reasons behind it, in addition to the appropriate solutions to solve it. The research data are collected using a test and a questionnaire. The further is made up of two exercises which aim to know and collect information about learners' familiarity and knowledge about phrasal verbs, and how far they are able to translate them either in isolation or within the context. The latter is made up of questions about translation and phrasal verbs aims to investigate the problems students face in translation in general, and in translating phrasal verbs from English into Arabic in particular. The results of the analysis show that students failed to provide appropriate equivalents of phrasal verbs in Arabic because of their total ignorance and insufficient exposure to them. They also show that most of students rely on the context and on the individual components of the phrasal verb which most of the time lead them to wrong and inacceptable translations. |
