Sciences of Language Language Interference Students Speaking Skill |
Index. décimale : |
420 Langue anglaise |
Résumé : |
The present study is based on an investigation about first
language interference as a factor affecting students’ speaking
performance. The students are not aware about their native
language interference when they try to speak in English and this
affects their speaking skill badly and make them face difficulties
when they try to speak. Since speaking a foreign language is the
students aim, the significance is given to decreasing the interference
of the native language in the speaking skill. Therefore, it is
hypothesized that if learners are aware of first language interference
that occurs while using the foreign language, their speaking skill
performance would be better. This study investigates the causes and
the effects of first language interference on students speaking skill.
To accomplish this study, a questionnaire has been designed and
administered to third-year students (L3) at the English department at
the University of frères Mentouri Constantine. A second
questionnaire has been administered to teachers of oral expression.
After the analysis of the data collected and the results obtained from
both questionnaires, the hypothesis of this research was not
confirmed. |

Language Sciences Analyzing Factors Written Productions |
Index. décimale : |

Résumé : |
The majority of the students face a range of difficulties that result a
significant weakness in producing acceptable texts: writing a paragraph or essay,
many researches and studies have confirmed that writing skill is very important
but it is complex and difficult. The aim of this study primarily is to find out
some of the factors that hinder significantly the ability of third-year students of
English in Mentouri Brothers University to write correctly and acceptably; and
then to analyze and interpret the results of this study. So why this shortcoming
especially third year students in writing skill? And what needs to be done to
improve the situation? In order to accomplish this study, we relied on two
questionnaires; the first one is administered to the third year teachers of written
expression and the second one to the third year students. The objective of this
procedure is to make sure the problem, and the obtained results confirm the
validity of questions and reveal seriously deficient in the writing skill (written
expression) among students. The reason is due, according to the results of
questionnaires, to the teacher and student alike and summarize some of them in
the following: adoption of teachers different approaches to teach written
expression, lack of motivation to write, a lack of reading skill, and finally the
impact of native language on the writing skill in English among students. Based
on the results obtained, we proposed a few suggestions that may help improve
student performance in writing |

Résumé : |
The present dissertation investigates students‟ and teachers‟ attitudes towards the use
of literary texts in the EFL contexts. It attempts, through empirical research, to elicit the
students‟ attitudes towards the use of literature in their classes and its relationship with the
learning of English as a foreign language. It also tries to elicit the teachers‟ attitudes towards
the use of literature in their English classrooms and rating their students‟ cultural awareness
about the target culture. The research design incorporates the use of questionnaires. The
sample consists of teachers and master one didactics students in the department of English
Frères Mentouri University, Constantine (1). The analysis of the findings of the study
indicates that students hold mixed feelings towards literature, i.e. positive and negative. Yet, it
should be noted that a considerable number of them holds a positive stance towards the use of
literary texts in the process of language teaching, as it was expected in fact. Teachers also
carry positive attitudes towards its significance in the study of a foreign language. The second
finding of the study reveals the fact that both teachers and students agree on how this
implementation plays a great role in developing the literary competence, cultural awareness
and the four skills. Thus, the findings of the study prove the hypothesis. |

Résumé : |
In learning a second and a foreign language, learners must be aware of its vocabulary in
order to achieve mastery in the target language and accomplish their learning objectives.
However, in the process of expanding and developing their vocabulary size, they find it
hard to decide on which ways are the most helpful in acquiring new words. Therefore,
this study aims at investigating the teachers and learners attitudes towards the role of English
YouTube videos in developing learners’ vocabulary mastery at the Faculty of Letters and
The English Language , Constantine -1- University and whether YouTube can be used as
a vocabulary learning and mastery tool. Based on this, we hypothesize that learners and
teachers attitudes towards English YouTube videos, would be positive. To test the validity
of our research hypothesis, and collect the required data, two questionnaires were
administered to both Oral Expression teachers and first year students. The findings from
the two questionnaires revealed that first year EFL students at the Faculty of Letters and
The English Language use English YouTube videos as a way to promote and enrich their
vocabulary mastery. In other words, YouTube has a positive role on the development of
students ‘ vocabulary mastery which confirms the research hypothesis |

Résumé : |
New developments in educational psychology emphasize the central importance of the
learners and their attitudes to learning as well as the importance of the teachers and their
attitudes to teaching. Due to the value of their attitudes in language learning and teaching, the
present research is based on the hypothesis that if the Algerian University teachers of Written
Expression do not apply the accurate criteria when evaluating learners’ written performance;
it is owing to the fact that they do not obey second language theory and practice and students
would not be satisfied with their assessment. It aims, then, to identify the attitudes of second
year license students at the University of Constantine (1) towards the teachers’ assessment of
their writings. These attitudes are expressed in terms of their reactions to teachers’
assessment, their preferences of the criteria of assessment they would like their teachers to
apply for evaluating them. Besides, investigating whether the teachers of (WE) apply the
exact criteria of assessment or not from both teachers’ and students’ perspectives. In addition
to identifying the attitudes of (WE) teachers towards the assessment of writing proficiency,
their preferable ways of assessing their students’ writing performance. For this purpose, one
basic research instrument was used. The first questionnaire was handed in to second year
license students and the second one was directed to teachers of written expression in the
department of English at Frère Mentouri University. The results of the investigation have
shown that both the students and the teachers hold favourable attitudes towards the
assessment of writing proficiency; and the teachers obey second language theory and practice
by applying the accurate criteria for the evaluation. The identification of students’ and
teachers’ attitudes can help to gain insight on the language learning and teaching process and
suggest a teacher-learner collaboration approach to assessment. |
