It is a mountainous rainy area, and drained by numerous wadis and greeks mainly fed by excess water from heavy rains (more than 400.7 mm/year). The Ain Azel, with permanent flow, is the main water course in the region. At the proposed dam site, it drains a 34 km2 watershed.
