The current study seeks to investigate the influence of mother tongue interference on foreign
language writing .It aims also to identify common errors that are made by learners in their
pieces of writing.and to supply teachers with suggestions to improve the quality of writing.It
is hypothesized that if learners are made aware of the errors that are related to mother tongue
use , they would write correctly in the target language.To achieve the aims of our study, two
tools of research are used ;a questionnaire is directed to teachers of Written Expression, and a
test is given to second year students . The analysis of the Collected data showed that learners
commit different types of errors .Most of the errors are related to mother tongue interference
like The misuse of prepositions,the ‘s’ of the third person ,the omission of the auxiliary ‘to be
‘and to do . steachers should minimize mother tongue interference through raising learners
awareness about corrective feedback,learners should be made aware of these errors to
improve the quality of their writing.Thus the hypothesis that states students awarene of the
relationship between their errors and the interference of mother tongue will help themto write
correctely in the target language was confirmed |
