The present work attempts to shed light on the importance of risk-taking in foreign language
learning and the effectiveness of positive thinking in shaping a risk-taking soul. It aims to
investigate the different causes preventing first year Master students from risk-taking in the
acquisition of their foreign English language at the University of Frère Mentouri Constantine.
The evaluation phase focuses on how positive thinking leads to risk-taking. A test, an interview
and a questionnaire are administered to a group of first year English master students, which
consists of 18 students, to gather the necessary data. The results obtained reveal that despite the
fact that the students have learnt and heard about risk-taking and its importance in the
acquisition of a foreign language, they are neither positive thinkers nor risk takers. The way
these students think hinder the way they learn and may stand as an obstacle which prevents
them from being successful learners. |
