| Résumé : |
This present research aims at examining the effect of self-esteem on enhancing
students’ speaking skill. In order to achieve this aim, this study works on the basis of the
descriptive method for describing the relationship between two variables: self-esteem and its
importance on enhancing the speaking skill. This dissertation uses a questionnaire as a
research tool to investigate whether Master 1 students of English as a Foreign Language have
high level of self-esteem, and if this would enhance their speaking skill. The questionnaires
were administered to a sample of oral expression teachers and Master 1 students of English as
Foreign Language at Frères Mentouri University, Constantine 1. The obtained data from the
questionnaires were analysed and the results revealed that high level of self-esteem has
serious effect on developing the students’ speaking performance. Furthermore, the results
showed that the teachers and students are aware about the importance of self-esteem in
developing foreign language learning, mainly the speaking skill. |
