Résumé : |
The present research aims at examining the student’s awareness of the fact that linguistic
meaning may lose its importance in the social context. The linguistic context of utterances or
sentences is not always important, when it is considered for the purpose of communication,
because language is not just the putting of words side by side in a correct form, for, it cannot
lead to a perfect understanding of meaning. For that, we hypothesized that if students of
English take into account the social context, they can interpret the intended meaning. To test
the validity of the stated hypothesis, a sample of Master I students at University of IConstantine-,
were given a test and a questionnaire. The test includes some utterances, in
which they were asked to give other meanings that the sentences convey, in addition to their
linguistic one, by trying to consider the social context. The obtained results proved that the
majority of students succeeded to interpret the social meaning that the utterances carried. So,
we conclude that the findings serve our hypothesis |
