Résumé : |
This dissertation, a total of two chapters, is entitled: “Attitudes towards methods used to enhance students‟ motivation in the speaking class”. The main problem that we found in teaching and learning speaking is that learners are not motivated to perform better orally; their performance is, in general very unsatisfactory. This problem may due to the methods chosen by teachers in teaching the speaking skill. As such, the aim of the present research is to investigate the attitudes of students towards the methods used by their teachers to enhance their motivation. Furthermore, this study attempts to find out whether teachers are themselves satisfied with the methods they use to motivate their students or not. Eventually, this study aims at suggesting to teachers some methods, language activities and techniques that may serve for the creation of free atmosphere, which in turn, serves for motivating students to develop their oral skills. It is by means of two questionnaires administered to both oral expression teachers and third year L.M.D students, at the department of English (university of Constantine one) that the following hypothesis has been investigated: if teachers apply the right teaching method, students would enhance their motivation and perform better in speaking. The results obtained show that students have negative attitudes towards the methods used by their teachers. Yet; teachers seem to be satisfied with the methods they use in their class. |
