Résumé : |
The current research points at studying the importance of proofreading in
minimizing mistakes in students’ writings. The principal intention is to heighten
students’ consciousness about the effectiveness of proofreading. Meantime, we want
to investigate whether students proofread their writings or not. Therefore, we
hypothesized that if first-year students carefully proofread their writing, they will
reduce mistakes, and consequently their written materials will be good. To verify the
accuracy of the hypothesis and achieve our objective, two research instruments have
been used: one questionnaire and an in-class writing test. The questionnaire and the
test were given to first-year students of English at the Department of Languages at
the University of Mentouri, Constantine. After analysing the collected data, it has
been revealed that the students committed a sufficient number of mistakes at the
level of form and content. In other words, the students appear to ignore the
proofreading stage, and therefore, their writings are frequently inadequate. After
boosting the students’ awareness about proofreading, they were able to decrease the
number of mistakes in their written products. Hence, our hypothesis is confirmed |
