Résumé : |
M rs. Margaret Thatcher’s leadership, policies and personality alike have excited
stronger passions –for and against- than have those of any other twentieth century British
Prime Minister. Because of her distinctive way of leading she had faced harsh criticism not
only from her opponents, but from some of her cabinet members as well. Both her
opponents and cabinet members were determined to put an end to her power by all means
and thereby pushed her to resign under great pressure. Therefore, through this work I want
to show that Mrs. Thatcher’s resignation was not her choice but that she was obliged to do
so. In addition, I am eager to know about the real reasons and factors that made the
resignation the only choice for Mrs. Thatcher. After knowing that her colleagues, friends
and allies stood against her, Mrs. Thatcher decided to resign. For that reasons, this work
attempts to show the plot that was built against Mrs. Thatcher to put her out. Besides, it is
important to emphasize the split in the party that affected and threaten Thatcher
government. Moreover, this work shows that the Poll Tax was the immediate event that
brought Thatcher’s leadership to an end. To conduct this study, I relied on books, historical
documents, articles and dictionaries. Thanks to this procedure and methodology I have
reached and learned more about the circumstances in which Mrs. Thatcher fell. |
