Many people have the perception that the British Welfare State did much good to the British society. In fact, they ignore the fact that the Welfare State led to the decline of post-war Britain. This study is divided into three chapters. The first chapter focuses on the historical background in which these social reforms were introduced. The following chapter analyzes the decline of the Welfare reforms which were expected to improve the British society in post-war years, and explains the impact of the Welfare system on Britain socially and economically. The last chapter shows the Thatcher‟s revolution against the Welfare reforms, and the end of post-war consensus.
