Résumé : |
The present research paper probes into the impact of American Media and Public
Opinion on uncovering the Watergate Scandal that took place during the presidency of the
37th U.S President Richard Nixon and the reaction of American government over the
incident. It explores the role of media in developing new ways of investigative reporting,
informant and secret sources in an effort to unveil the truth of the Watergate. The Watergate
scandal was one of serious issues that led to the direct injection of media into the United
States political process. The Watergate scandal had a double impact on Americans and U.S
government because it led to public distrust of their government and widened the gap between
them and the government. It was one of the toughest scandals that took place during 1972 and
1974 that ended Richard Nixon’s presidency who was forced to resign or would face
impeachment. Although the Watergate scandal damaged the image of the presidential office
and government institution and its relation with public and media, it was a significant
evidence that led media to be a fourth power in the United States policy process |
