Language Sciences Students’ Vocabulary Through Use of ICT |
Index. décimale : |

Résumé : |
The present dissertation is intended to investigate the role of Information and Communication Technologies in enhancing learners’ second language vocabulary acquisition. We aim at exploring the different employments of these technologies in language teaching / learning in general and in acquiring vocabulary items in particular. It is by the means of two questionnaires administered to both teachers and third-year students at the Department of Letters and English at Mentouri Brothers University, Constantine that we investigate our hypothesis which looks into students’ vocabulary development through the use of ICT. The obtained results show that ICT is helpful and an effective means in helping foreign language learners acquire new vocabulary items and expand their vocabulary background. Therefore, it is recommended to adapt these technologies at the university setting and to guide teachers and students to their use |

Language Sciences Effectiveness Project-based Collaborative Writing |
Index. décimale : |
420 Langue anglaise |
Résumé : |
English curricula is still offering theories and traditional teaching methods in which
learners are almost passive instead of introducing new methods such as learning by doing,
experiential learning and student-directed/centered learning. Over the years, field trips,
laboratory investigations and other projects have been planned to enrich and extend the
curriculum and to engage learners in their own learning by involving them in challengingreal-
life situations that help in developing collaboration and decision-making strategies.
The present study investigates the effectiveness of project-based learning on Secondary
School learners’ collaborative writing performance through projects that emphasize
collaborative work and writing efficiency. Therefore, we hypothesize that if projects are welldeveloped
and implemented in the Foreign Language classroom, learners’ collaborative
writing will be enhanced in terms of writing outcomes and collaboration skills. For this, we
opted for three main research tools: an observation of learners’ tendencies while working in
groups, a teachers’ questionnaire and a quasi-experimental research design. The aim of the
observation is to evaluate qualitatively learners’ development as regards their group work and
contribution to the task. The questionnaire is done to reveal teachers’ attitudes towards the
effectiveness of project-based learning on collaborative writing. Finally, the objective of the
quasi-experiment is to measure quantitatively learners’ progress regarding their writing
performance as compared to the criteria of acceptability of the English written discourse and
to their performance before the treatment |

Language Sciences Monitoring Strategies Fostering Reading |
Index. décimale : |
420 Langue anglaise |
Résumé : |
Reading is that crucial aspect of language that everybody acknowledges the importance in foreign language learning. Since foreign language learners come from different backgrounds, they need to develop new insights about how to deal with different written materials. The present study is an attempt to investigate the role of comprehension monitoring strategies in fostering the reading comprehension of first-year students at the Department of Letters and English, University of “Frères Mentouri” Constantine. The hypothesis up on which our research is based is if first-year students are taught comprehension monitoring strategies, this will foster their reading comprehension. For the sake of testing the stated hypothesis, two questionnaires were administered to both teachers and students from the Department of Letters and English, University of “Des Frères Mentouri”, Constantine. The obtained results demonstrate, through teachers’ and students’ responses, that comprehension monitoring strategies are effective in fostering reading comprehension if implemented properly. Therefore, it is recommended that comprehension monitoring strategies take a part in the reading class; but before, a course for reading should be created |
