In fact, it is not simply putting words on papers. It is based on the skillful use of language to convey meaning effectively. Rich vocabulary is one of the best ways for learners to write accurately. That is to say, it is the use of the right words according to the context, i.e. paying attention to the choice of vocabulary enables students to write readable and comprehensible written texts. All languages consist of words that are selected and chosen appropriately to communicate effectively. This dissertation aims to determine the effectiveness of word choice on students’ final written productions. For this purpose, a questionnaire is addressed to (8) written expression teachers to know their point of views about their students’ level in writing related to choice of vocabulary. Another questionnaire is administered to (50) third-year English students at Mentouri Brothers University Constantine 1 to know their point of views about the writing skill and their word choice in writing. Then, a test is conducted on the same sample in order to know if they are really aware of the main features of writing.
