Résumé : |
This research attempts to investigate the implementation of the project work in the
Algerian Secondary School First-Year English textbook “At the Crossroads”. Through this
dissertation, many aims have been achieved: First, we tackled the importance of the project
work via educators’ views and perceptions. Second, we sought to find whether the
textbook is suitable for learners to attain the objectives stated by the Ministry of Education
and whether this pedagogical tool integrates the framework of the recent reforms that have
been launched by the Ministry. Third, we assessed the efficiency of the Project Work in the
Algerian Secondary Education textbook and consequently its effect on pupils learning. The
educational setting where the study took place are the Secondary Schools: Kateb Yacine in
Ali Mendjeli, Constantine, and Mustapha Benboulaid in Beni Oualben, Skikda. Our
investigation is based on the analysis of some strengths and weaknesses of the First-year
Secondary School textbook. In order to achieve this evaluation, two questionnaires are
provided, one directed to nine teachers (09), and the other one to eighty learners (80) for
collecting data about the textbook and its project work. The hypothesis we depart from is
that if we implement the Project Work in the Algerian First-Year Secondary School
Textbook without its specific characteristics, and without content that suit learners’ needs
and interests, it could not be at the level of being the major tool of realising the objectives
stated by the Ministry of Education. Finally, and in view of the results obtained, we can
state that the objectives are not completely realised since the content of both the textbook
and the project work do not suit the majority of students’ needs and interests |
