Résumé :	The purpose of this study is to investigate the importance of teachers’ correction of spelling errors in improving students’ writing performance. Particular attention is given to this topic because spelling is a significant sub-skill of writing. Accordingly, we hypothesize that when teachers use correction for spelling errors effectively, first year students at the department of Letters and English Language, Frères Mentouri, Constantine 1 are likely going to enhance their writing performance. We attempt to check the validity of this hypothesis through the administration of two questionnaires: one for 10 teachers of Written Expression, and the second questionnaire is submitted to 30 first year students selected randomly from a total population of 493 students. The results obtained from this study show that teachers’ correction plays a crucial role in developing students writing performance. Therefore, good writing ability depends to a larger extent on teachers’ correction for spelling errors.
