Literary texts play an important role in the EFL classrooms. The present study aims at
investigating students’ awareness of the importance of reading comprehension strategies
in the analysis of literary texts. To reach this aim, we hypothesise that Master 1 students
of English could easily analyse literary texts when they are likely aware of the
importance of reading comprehension strategies.In order to verify this hypothesis,a
survey research has been designed using questionnaires administered to 36 Master 1
students and 10 teachers of literature at Frères Mentouri University, Constantine 1. The
obtained results clearly show that although Master 1 students did not receive explicit
teaching of reading comprehension strategies, they are aware of the important role of
these strategies in analysing literary texts. Moreover, the data obtained from teachers’
questionnaire indicate that teachers emphasise on the important role that reading
comprehension strategies play when dealing with the analysis of literary texts. |
