Résumé : |
This research aims at investigating teachers’ attitudes towards the effectiveness of using
collaborative crossword puzzle games as a teaching tool to enhance EFL learners’ lexical
knowledge. It is hypothesised that EFL teachers at the English department in Mentouri
University, Constantine 1, do not use collaborative crossword puzzle games to foster the
learners’ vocabulary. We believe that vocabulary is a basic skill that can be achieved through
repetetive practice which makes EFL learners generally rely on the teacher’s support in the
process of learning. To achieve the aim of the research, we relied on one main research tool
which is the teachers’ questionnaire in order to collect data about the techniques they use
when teaching vocabulary and whether they incorporate innovative methods when teaching a
foreign language and to know their attitudes and perspectives towards collaborative crossword
puzzle games as a vocabulary teaching tool in EFL classrooms. The results showed that EFL
teachers use collaborative crossword puzzle games to foster the learners’ lexical knowledge.
Moreover, it was found that EFL teachers consider this tool as an effective strategy to easily
familiarise learners with new words. Accordingly, we recommend the use of collaborative
crossword puzzle games as a teaching tool. |
