Résumé : |
This dissertation analyzes the human personality and the consequences of certain
decisions on the psychology of the individual as depicted in Khaled Hosseini‘s novel The
Kite Runner. Human psyche is such a complex world where different elements reside, and
which control the behavior of the person. Some may come from the external world, but
others, the more intricate ones, rise from the unconsciousness. The unconscious elements
are more serious for they are not only uncontrollable, but also unknown. Khaled
Hosseini‘s The Kite Runner, the first American-Afghan novel, tells the story of a boy
named Amir who is faced with a crossroad, a life changing detour, and who takes the
wrong decision. That decision has a lasting impact on his life as an adult, and the only way
to attain redemption is by going back to his country Afghanistan and save his best friend‘s
son, whom he later discovers to be his half-brother. The analysis is done by using the
theories of the father of psychoanalysis Freud. It concentrates first on Amir the child by
using alienation theory, and then psychosexual stages of development are applied. The
study also uses the theories of trauma, self-punishment, and aggression to examine the
struggle of Amir‘s ego and superego. |
