This study aims at providing an overview of the most common grammatical errors
made by
second year students of English at the University of Frères Mentouri, Constantine .
The main concern, then, is to identify, classify and explain the reasons behind making errors
which are viewed as inevitable to be used constructively for enhancing the learning process .
It was hypothesized that the causes of errors are not solely interlingual ; that is, due to the
learners‟ linguistic background and native language interference . They are rather
intralingual, that is, made by the students when they misuse some target language rules. To
carry out this research , a sample of essays was gathered from seventy (70) second year
students.The results obtained revealed that the students had serious problems with grammar,
notably, articles, prepositions, subject, verb agreement and tenses |
