Résumé : |
This study aims at exploring and describing the different strategies of apology used by Algerian
males and females in Constantine dialect. The case study is based on Native Speakers of
Algerian Arabic particularly Constantine dialect which is their mother tongue. This research
contains two chapters that are the theoretical chapter and the practical chapter. This research
rests on two tools which are Discourse Completion Test (DCT) and a questionnaire, The
Discourse Completion Task contains situations that the fifty-eight participants imagine
themselves in and answer accordingly. Both tools seek to find and to examine the different
strategies used by Algerian males and females when apologize. The results of the study reveal
that Algerian males tend to apologize more than Algerian females in different cases. Also, the
findings of the study proved that there are differences and similarities in the use of apology
strategies by both genders. But the Algerian males use more strategies than Algerian females in
almost all the situations suggested in the research. From these findings, it is clear that gender is
influenceable in apology. However, women are not brave enough to apologize; they
underestimate themselves when they apologize to someone. The results show that The Algerian
society is divided into two categories which are the apologetic and the unapologetic society. To
sum up, the findings of this research are not consistent with the two hypothesis of the study.
The hypothesis of the study argues that Algerian women tend to apologize more than Algerian
men and they use apology strategies more than men; however, the results of the study proved
the opposite. Therefore, the findings negate the two hypothesis. |
