Résumé : |
The present study deals with the strategies used by second year students of English at the
university of Mentouri Brothers, Constantine in translating the English oxymorons into
Arabic. It aims at having some insights about students‟ awareness of the English oxymorons,
and their ability to translate them into Arabic using the appropriate strategy. In this respect, it
has been hypothesized that if students are not aware of the English oxymorons, then they have
tendency to use literal translation as a strategy to deliver their equivalence into Arabic. To
answer the research‟s aims, questions and test our hypothesis, a questionnaire and a test have
been used. Both were addressed to twenty second year students of English; the former aims
mainly at exploring students‟ knowledge of the English oxymorons. The latter, however, has
been designed to investigate students‟ translation oxymorons and to clarify the strategies used
in their translation. The data obtained from the test reveals that although students are not
aware of the English oxymorons and have no knowledge about them, they were able to
translate them effectively using mainly literal translation. |
