Résumé : |
The African society was a society which sticks to its traditional norms and standards.
In return, nothing made the latter benefit from it. The women’s role and engagement was
completely neglected since the men took the lead in all the domain and especially in literature.
The present thesis aims at discussing and analyzing the manhood and masculinity through the
female writers and the treatment women received over the novel of Buchi Emecheta “The
Joys of Motherhood”. For this purpose, this work is divided into two chapters. The first one is
centered on the females’ novelists’ role and struggle in giving their voice and the other
women in their societies during the 19th century. The second chapter probes in taking Buchi
Emecheta’s novel and precisely her female characters: Nnu Ego, Adaku, Ona and Mama
Abby as important figures to depict the female’s situation and the social level. As an African
and Igbo writer and woman, Buchi Emecheta defended all the women in the African society
and resisted all the old patterns as result of her own experience. |
