This present research paper is an investigation of a problem faced by students of Master
1 applied languages when translating from Arabic into English and which is the use of
both concepts “omission” and “addition”. This study will be conducted on a sample of
39 students out of 197 who are asked to answer a questionnaire and translate a text made
up of two paragraphs. The questionnaire and the test serve to shed light on causes
behind using these two notions when translating and if they are aware enough about
these two strategies. The results show that students are not enough aware about these
two notions and they are using them inappropriately. This means that students must
search for these two concepts and understand them in order to translate correctly and
teachers have to teach these notions to their students to make them aware enough about
them. |
