Résumé : |
Black women’s writings are an interesting, fascinating, and attractive field of study. This
study examines the loss of identity in Toni Morrison’s Beloved. All characters in the novel, as all
slaves, have been deeply traumatized under the institution of slavery that they lost self wholeness.
The novel’s protagonists, Sethe, Paul D. and Denver have been able to confront their past and
overcome the pain and isolation due to Beloved, who represents past traumas, and the
community’s help. Only through confrontation of the past traumas and collectiveness of the
whole community that cure takes place and struggle becomes effective. Toni Morrison through
Beloved preaches unity and self empowerment of African American women and African
community. |
