Résumé : |
The basic interest of this dissertation is to handle a considerable investigation of the Southern decadence in William Faulkner's The Sound and the Fury. This dissertation attempts to demonstrate the aspiration of the American South after the Civil War and by the coming of the twentieth century, suitably this novel is an expressive reflection of these aspirations. The aim is to discover Faulkner's modernist vision of the South after the Civil War. In this respect, this study will detect the aspects of decay in the American South using the Compson family to conduct this study. This dissertation focuses on revealing how the corrupt values of the aristocratic Compsons led them to be doomed to decay; besides, this study will shed light on the influence of these values on the members of the family and the Black community as well. Furthermore, this study will attempt a brief examination of the antebellum South through its evolving literature; this will help to unveil to what extent the American South has been changing in the twentieth century. |
