Résumé : |
The present correlational study aims to explore the relationship between students’
background knowledge and listening comprehension. It mainly predicts that there would be a
relationship between the two (2) variables constituting the hypothesis which stated that the
more familiar EFL students are with cultural knowledge of English language, the better would
be their listening comprehension ability. To achieve that aim a quantitative correlational
research design is conducted with a sample of 20 participants who are randomly selected from
375 first year students in the department of English at Constantine 1 University. Two tests are
carried out as a way to collect data by using the SPSS (Statistical Package for Social
Sciences) version 23.The analysis and interpretation of the results of the correlational study
show that there is no relationship between students’ background knowledge and listening
comprehension. On the basis of these results, we suggest that teachers of English as a foreign
language should attempt to shed light on listening comprehension and give it more
importance and attention. |
