Résumé : |
The study aims at investigating why Master One students have difficulties in differentiating
between technical and semi-technical words and to try to formulate solutions. For that
purpose, it is hypothesized that if Master One students arrive to differentiate between
technical and semi-technical terms, they will cease to face difficulties in treating and
understanding EST texts. In order to check this hypothesis, the researcher designed two means
of research; two questionnaires and a test. One questionnaire was administered to teachers to
know their point of view about the research problem and solution, the other is addressed to
students to examine their knowledge and attitude towards technical and semi-technical
vocabulary. Another questionnaire plus a test are designed. The questionnaire was
administered to students to probe their stand vis-Ã -vis the difficulties they have with technical
and semi-technical words. For the test, it was given to check the students‟ levels in analyzing
EST texts and identifying technical and semi-technical terms. The analyzed results revealed
that Master One Students have real problems with recognizing technical and semi-technical
vocabulary in which they are not able to make the difference between them and the impact of
this problem on their analysis of EST texts. Also, the findings showed that the most
problematic area of knowledge for student is semi-technical vocabulary. Hence, these results
confirm our hypothesis. |
