The present dissertation aims at investigating the effects of intrinsic motivation on the
learning process in second year (LMD) students of English at the University of
Constantine 1Mentouri. This work is based upon one hypothesis: If second year (LMD)
students of English at the university of Constantine are motivated intrinsically then they
will enhance the learning process. In order to test the hypothesis of the present research,
we carried out an investigation through using two questionnaires. The students'
questionnaire consists of 19 questions to a total number of fifty –three participants in
second year (LMD) learners of English, at the University of Constantine. The teachers'
questionnaire consists of 12 questions to a total number of twelve teachers at the same
university, at the end of the academic year 2013.The results obtained, after using one
means of research(the students' questionnaire and the teachers' questionnaire) , revealed
that second year LMD students of English , at the university of Constantine, opted for
learning English as a foreign language, because they are intrinsically motivated to learn
that language, but they are not provided with opportunities that support their perceptions
of competence and autonomy in learning English as a foreign language. The
pedagogical implications that emerged at the end of this dissertation came as a result of
the present investigation. |
