Writing is a skill that entails a lot of efforts to be achieved as it is an essential skill to master a
foreign language. However, teaching students how to work cooperatively based on
cooperative learning techniques to develop the writing skill is a specific factor that was
supported by researchers because of its motivational effects on improving student’s paragraph
writing performance. Thus, we hypothesize that if teachers provide their students with
cooperative learning strategies inside the classroom, this will enhance their writing skills. The
research work is constituted of two chapters, a theoretical chapter which is made up of three
sections, the first one is concerned with the writing skill, the second one is about paragraph
writing and the third section is dealing with cooperative learning. The second chapter is
mainly based on the analysis of two questionnaires to collect data. A student’s questionnaire
was designed for 26 students from second year classes at the department of English language
and a teacher’s questionnaire which was addressed to 6 teachers of English language at
university of brothers Mentouri in Constantine. The results of our data were analyzed,
interpreted and showed that both students and teachers are aware of the importance of using
cooperative learning as a motivational medium to develop the writing skill and it has a
positive impact on the process of learning. As a result, the data collected confirm and prove
our hypothesis of using cooperative learning as an effective strategy to improve the writing
skill. |
