Résumé : |
The present dissertation tackles the issue of misplacing Frost as either a traditional or a
modernist poet and thus misunderstanding him. Robert Frost has been a topic of controversy
for almost a century since critics failed to classify him. In fact, even when they claim him a
modernist, for instance, they still treat his case with hesitancy. The aim of this dissertation is
to explore the reason behind this controversy, which is his contradictory attitude that is
mainly because of his philosophy of dualism. This study brings into focus Frost's use of polar
themes through describing his theory of poetry and analyzing his poems. The reason why it is
hard to know where he stands exactly among the modernist and traditionalist poets is that he
adopts elements from both and adjusts them to suit his preferences. One can conclude that
Frost is flexible when it comes to writing poetry and therefore is a hybrid poet. |
