The purpose of the present research is to raise students’ awareness towards the influence
of first language interference on their writing quality. The underlying hypothesis is that
if third year LMD students of English become aware enough about the influence of first
language interference, their writing quality would be improved. The educational setting
in which this study takes place is the Department of Letters and English Language,
University Des frères Mentouri, Constantine1. 14 teachers of Written Expression are
selected randomly as a sample in the current study. In order to achieve the aim of the
undertaken research, answer the research questions and attempt to confirm the validity
of the stated hypothesis, one research tool is used; namely teachers’ questionnaire.
Teachers’ questionnaire aims at exploring teachers’ attitudes about their students’
awareness towards the influence of first language on their writing quality. The findings
of the study are in the direction of our hypothesis and indicate that learners who are
influenced by their first language have poor writing. Therefore, teachers are
recommended to use different techniques to raise their students’ awareness to the
influence of First Language while writing in English. |
