The current study investigates English as a Foreign language teachers’ use of code-switching
to enrich learners' vocabulary learning. It seeks to uncover the frequency of code-switching in
a middle school class in “Guelma” when teaching English and whether it helps the learners to
acquire the language or not. Moreover, the study seeks to identify the types and functions of
code-switching. To test the hypothesis that is said code-switching phenomenon does expand
second foreign language learners acquisition of vocabulary, an online survey was distributed to
first-year middle school teachers of English at “Meziani Said” middle school in “Guelma” for
the sake of collecting data about the issue addressed in the investigation, besides that, a
classroom observation was conducted for both teachers and learners to check the main aim
behind this research. The results showed that code-switching is a good method that teachers
adopt inside the classroom to enrich students’ vocabulary learning. Also, this strategy motivates
pupils to acquire the language because it helps them to understand. |
