Résumé : |
The present study is conducted to explore the relationship between Intercultural
Communicative Competence (ICC) and social media exposure. ICC is described as the
ability to communicate with individuals from different cultural backgrounds effectively
and appropriately. Social media provides a platform that facilitates intercultural
interactions and gives free access to culturally bound elements. As the relationship between
ICC and social media is not often explored, this study brings this area into the limelight
focusing on the Algerian context by exploring whether there is a correlation between
students of English ICC and social media exposure. In the pursuit to answer these
questions, two research instruments are adopted: A questionnaire and an ICC test designed
using Google forms and administered online concurrently to Master Two students of
English, Constantine 1 University. The findings of the study reveal that students are using
social media daily for more than four hours for multiple reasons. One of these reasons is
mainly to get access to foreign content which inevitably, helped them for gaining a better
understanding as well as develop better attitudes towards foreign cultures. |
